REVIEW: DRIVING ME NUTS! BY P.J. JONES

DRIVING ME NUTS!
P.J. JONES

SYNOPSIS (GOODREADS):

Driving Me Nuts! Three mental patients, two loaded guns, one stolen car and a whole lot of trouble.

Every Friday night Ruckus and his roommate Fred sneak out of Shady Grove Home for the Mentally Insane for a ride in their orderly's convertible. A trip to the used book store and the Dairy Queen is Ruckus's one little routine among the chaos of pissing all over the lunch trays.

There is nothing routine about Apple, another Shady Grove resident who wants to go joyriding with the boys. It quickly becomes obvious she has bigger plans than getting an ice cream cone; plans that could land them in jail or even worse.

When their lives are threatened by three angry ex-cons and a crooked cop, it's up to Ruckus to get his friends back to Shady Grove in one piece. But first, they all need to face reality and confront their tragic pasts. It doesn't take long for Ruckus to realize that if Apple doesn't drive him totally nuts, she just may be the one to help restore his sanity.

MY TAKE

4 STARS

This book starts out beyond hilarious and then takes a slightly more serious turn with jabs of humor here and there.

This is my second read by P.J. Jones, and I haven't been let down yet. This book was brilliantly written. Jones' crazy sense of humor really shines with these amazing characters. I bonded with the characters and felt what they felt (and that is what a good book is about).

Like I mentioned above, this book isn't all laughs and giggles. There are some serious moments. Afterall, these are mental patients and there is a reason why they are considered insane.

Overall, this is a seriously good read and I would definitely recommend it!

REVIEW: 'SALEM'S LOT BY STEPHEN KING

'SALEM'S LOT
STEPHEN KING

SYNOPSIS (GOODREADS):

'Salem's Lot is a small New England town with white clapboard houses, tree-lined streets, and solid church steeples. That summer in 'Salem's Lot was a summer of home-coming and return; spring burned out and the land lying dry, crackling underfoot. Late that summer, Ben Mears returned to 'Salem's Lot hoping to cast out his own devils... and found instead a new unspeakable horror.

A stranger had also come to the Lot, a stranger with a secret as old as evil, a secret that would wreak irreparable harm on those he touched and in turn on those they loved.

All would be changed forever—Susan, whose love for Ben could not protect her; Father Callahan, the bad priest who put his eroded faith to one last test; and Mark, a young boy who sees his fantasy world become reality and ironically proves the best equipped to handle the relentless nightmare of 'Salem's Lot.

MY TAKE

What a great classic Stephen King read! I really enjoyed reading this classic horror novel and if you love the horror genre and vampires, this book will suit you.

There are no "nice" vampires in this book, and for that reason, this was such a refreshing read from the brooding, romantic vampire books that are currently cashing in sales at the local book store. Stephen King delivers the basic old-school  vampire theory with 'Salem's Lot.

Now, some readers will claim there is way to much mundane information included about the townspeople of Jerusalem's Lot, but you must get to know these people to get the full effect of this book.

As far as the scare factor with this book, there are some that claim it kept them from sleeping soundly at night. For me, well, I slept just fine. It didn't give me nightmares or scare me into hanging garlic on my windows. I'm not saying this book isn't scare worthy because I am sure for some it absolutely is. It really takes something absolutely horrendous to scare me. I seem to be desensitized to the horrors associated with vampires.

'Salem's Lot is a well-written, classic read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would absolutely recommend this book to all my vampire loving friends.

I really love this series- interesting characters, action, romance, humor, etc...

Ah, Drake Black, my my! He's an assassin for 'The Organization', and one of the deadliest by far. He's by far more than just a vampire. Drake is special.

Then there's Toni Tutoro, a vampire fledgling who is in a whole lot of trouble. When Drake takes a contract of protection on Toni, things get really interesting.
