What she doesn’t want...is exactly what he needs.

Shunned and ridiculed all her life for something she can’t control, Samantha Blair hides her psychic abilities and lives on the fringes of society. Against her will, however, she’s tapped into a killer—or rather, his victims. Each woman’s murder, blow-by-blow, ravages her mind until their death releases her back to her body. Sam knows she must go to the authorities, but will the rugged, no-nonsense detective in charge of tracking down the killer believe her?

Detective Brandt Sutherland only trusts hard evidence, yet Sam’s visions offer clues he needs to catch a killer. The more he learns about her incredible abilities, however, the clearer it becomes that Sam’s visions have put her in the killer’s line of fire. Now Brandt must save her from something he cannot see or understand…and risk losing his heart in the process.

As danger and desire collide, passion raises the stakes in a game Sam and Brandt don’t dare lose.

TWILIGHT COMING TO THE SMALL SCREEN?

SAY WHAT?

According to Perez Hilton, this might actually be a possibility. Personally I think Perez might be jumping the gun a little. Supposedly Robert Pattinson hinted at the idea of this being a possibility.

When Rob was asked a question about the Twilight Saga coming to and end with the approaching release date of Breaking Dawn 2, Rob said:

I’m sure they’ll have a ‘Twilight’ TV series spinoff soon. They’ll do it again.

When asked about Rob continuing his role of Edward Cullen if this TV series were to actually happen, he said:

Who knows? The only thing that creates a little bit of a problem is that I’m supposed to be 17 forever. I’m not sure I can be 17 forever."

Do I think Perez is putting too much weight on these comments by Robert? Yes, I do. I think the whole Twilight phase is dying out and people are ready to put this saga behind them and move on to something else.

Okay Twilight lovers/haters, I'd love to hear what you think. Leave your comments below.

REVIEW: THE TURTLE BOY BY KEALAN PATRICK BURKE

REVIEW: THE TURTLE BOY BY KEALAN PATRICK BURKE

THE TURTLE BOY
TIMMY QUINN BK 1
KEALAN PATRICK BURKE
GENRE: HORROR

SYNOPSIS

School is out and summer has begun. For eleven year old Timmy Quinn and his best friend Pete Marshall, the dreary town of Delaware Ohio becomes a place of magic, hidden treasure and discovery.

But on the day they encounter a strange young boy sitting on the bank of Myers Pond, a pond playground rumor says may hide turtles the size of Buicks, everything changes.

For it soon becomes apparent that dark secrets abound in the little community, secrets which come cupped in the hands of the dead, and in a heartbeat, Timmy and Pete's summer of wonder becomes a season of terror, betrayal and murder.

MY TAKE

I was introduced to Kealan Patrick Burke's writing through his short story The Grief Frequency—an outstanding 5 star story. I've actually had The Turtle Boy on my Kindle for a while now and just haven't gotten to it yet. After reading The Grief Frequency, I knew I had to read more by this author.

The Turtle Boy, a novella, is an intriguing introduction to the Timmy Quinn series. This story is a well-balanced mix of the paranormal, horror, and suspense. The year is 1979. Timmy and his friend Pete are two friends wasting time during the summer before school starts, much like any normal eleven-year-old boys. As this novella starts out, it seems like a lot of “coming of age” stories. You have two friends, summer winding down, Timmy comes from a nice family while Pete isn't as fortunate. His mother died and his father is an abusive alcoholic. This “coming of age” story takes a turn when the boys venture down to Meyer Pond and happen upon The Turtle Boy. This is the point I really got sucked into the story and found it hard to put down. The pace of the story speeds up and before you know it, it's ends abruptly. That isn't a bad thing though. With this being the introduction to the series, I expected the ending to leave me wanting more.

The Turtle Boy is a great read and highly recommended. I can't wait to see where the next book in the series, The Hides, takes Timmy Quinn.

The Turtle Boy can be downloaded for FREE through Amazon.

When they speak of our realm, Despina, it is a realm without Gods. It is said long ago they left our world, finding their influence too heavy handed, our deaths too many blamed upon their bidding. Before they departed, seven objects, chal'sei, were imbued with their essence and gifted to mortal men believed to be of righteous heart. Yet not all were so virtuous.

Ages past, the wars began. The skies blackened with the ashes of death. The very soil burned. Undying armies fed upon those who dared to stand against them. Life, was on the verge of irradiation.

In the end, just men imbued with the might of the departed Gods rose up and overcame the hungering darkness. With evil all but obliterated, a new area of peace has reigned for almost five thousand years, the revered chal'sei were lost to the world.

That is how the story goes. History after all, is at the mercy of those who write it. How would we know any different?

I believed it too once...until they came for me. Quickly I learned reality is never as pretty as the stories.

The Balance that has keep that ancient war in stalemate for countless centuries, has shifted. Some desperately seek to restore it. Others, seek to finally conclude it. And I...I fear the world will burn anew....and I will be to blame.

REVIEW: DARK HARVEST BY NORMAN PARTRIDGE

REVIEW: DARK HARVEST BY NORMAN PARTRIDGE

DARK HARVEST
NORMAN PARTRIDGE
GENRE: HORROR

SYNOPSIS

Halloween, 1963. They call him the October Boy, or Ol’ Hacksaw Face, or Sawtooth Jack. Whatever the name, everybody in this small Midwestern town knows who he is. How he rises from the cornfields every Halloween, a butcher knife in his hand, and makes his way toward town, where gangs of teenage boys eagerly await their chance to confront the legendary nightmare. Both the hunter and the hunted, the October Boy is the prize in an annual rite of life and death.

Pete McCormick knows that killing the October Boy is his one chance to escape a dead-end future in this one-horse town. He’s willing to risk everything, including his life, to be a winner for once. But before the night is over, Pete will look into the saw-toothed face of horror--and discover the terrifying true secret of the October Boy . . .

Winner of the Stoker Award and named one of the 100 Best Novels of 2006 by Publishers Weekly, Dark Harvest is a powerhouse thrill-ride with all the resonance of Shirley Jackson’s "The Lottery."

MY TAKE

It never fails—while shopping I just HAD to stop by the book section. The cover art for Dark Harvest drew me in. The synopsis sounded promising, a nice blurb by Peter Straub on the cover, and also mention of this book winning the Bram Stoker Award sealed the deal for me.

Dark Harvest was a very engaging read. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire 197 pages of this story. It reminded me somewhat of a story that you could see on The Twilight Zone (TTZ is actually mentioned a couple of times in the book) or Tales From the Crypt.

Halloween night is a little different for the people of this small no-name town. The teenage boys have been locked away in their rooms without food for the past five days in preparation for “The Run”. The starved teenage boys are let out to hunt the October Boy, a scarecrow brought to life. The winner gets to leave town, which is a dream for these teenage boys. Winning this game is not all what it seems to be.

I would recommend Dark Harvest as a great little Halloween read.

The Grief Frequency is an amazing short story. It's a story that will chill you to the bone without the need of blood, gore, and monsters. This story plays on the fear of loss and guilt, and will send your emotions reeling.

The monsters lurk in everyone: monsters of greed, of guilt, of the pleasure found in pain, of the pain found when pleasure dies. Carefully disguised, the monsters can sit down beside you or take up residence within you at the slightest twist of fate. Will you try to stop them? Will you want to?

This collection of 18 stories from R. Thomas Riley deftly explores the monsters born of the human mind. “Attrition” offers a future prison system that frees only those who repent sincerely—but what can an inmate do if he finds that sincerity is not really the key? “Twin Thieves” and “Tautology” throw a devilish spin on relationships gone wrong, while “The Lesser Evil” twists the abuses of race and power into a gritty, noirish nightmare of the choices a man must make to protect a lesser man and a greater good. In “Touching God,” a young man’s past catches up to him when worlds bleed into each other and the past crosses into present, bringing back the abuse he once escaped and the brother who wasn’t so lucky.
Sacrifice, selfishness, and the worst of good intentions: all combine in The Monster Within Idea. From vampires and aliens to hit women and Wild Bill Hickock, Riley gives a subtle psychological turn to dark science fiction and horror. Let the monsters walk the paths of your mind. The idea is already within.

For fans of magic, romance, and fantasy.

OCTOBER GIRLS: CRYSTAL & BONE

Five days until Halloween and all hell is about to break loose.

And it’s all Crystal’s fault.

Momma warned her not to consort with the dead and tried to teach her the magic spells that would close the portal to the afterlife. But Crystal doesn’t want to be a trailer-trash witch like Momma. She has dreams of going to community college and escaping the Appalachian town of Parson’s Ford.

Her best friend Bone is only too happy to escape the afterlife and help Crystal break the rules. Bone died too young, and she’ll do whatever it takes to remain among the living.

Then a teen movie maker comes to Parson’s Ford, and he has a very special project in mind: a horror movie starring a real ghost. The kids who watch his movies turn into brainwashed zombies. And to totally complicate matters, Crystal thinks he’s kind of a hunk, and she’s afraid her boyfriend Pettigrew only loves her because of Momma’s magic spells.

Now it’s Halloween, the night when the portal to the afterlife is widest, and somebody’s been messing with Momma’s potions. The fate of the world is in Crystal’s hands, but she hasn’t been paying attention to her lessons. And a mysterious figure in the afterlife is urging Bone to stay loyal to her own kind instead of to Crystal.

The movie is rolling, the creatures are stirring, and the brainwashed teenagers are ready to welcome a new star from the other side of the grave.

Crystal and Bone must overcome drama queens, coffin cuties, and mangled magic if they want to remain best friends forever—but at this rate, forever may not last much longer.

Abandoned by her husband and widely accused of being nothing more than a porcelain doll without passion or intelligence, she has ventured into dangerous territory and commissioned the help of the most famous inventor in New Europa for a scandalous project.
